Winners of the eighth annual Gaia Awards were announced during a ceremony highlighting the brightest and most innovative thinking in sustainable construction products, systems and techniques during the Big 5 Expo in Dubai on Tuesday 24th November 2015. The panel whittled the original 283 down to a shortlist of 54 before rendering that list down further, to 18 - three finalists for each of the six categories. Judging in each of the final six categories took a full day each as judges pored over each submission. Selected by an independent and impartial panel of judges, three finalists were chosen for each of six categories including Coatings Adhesives & Sealants, General Construction, HVAC, Marble Stone & Ceramics, Windows Doors & Cladding and Innovations. Entry for this year’s event was strong. Not only did the competition attract 40% more entries this year than last, but the quality of entry and products put up for consideration impressed the judging panel of five tremendously. The panel included Anwaar Al Shimmari, director of Projects Planning Department at the Ministry of Public Works; Alaa K Ashmawy, professor of civil engineering and dean of the school of engineering; Ahmed Bukhash, director of Urban Planning at the Dubai Municipality; Stephane Le Gentil, CEO of Etihad Energy Services, and Mario Seneviratne, director of green technologies. The Gaia Awards has grown into the industry’s most respected awards honoring those construction equipment and products that have truly integrated the concept of moving towards a more sustainable built environment. The idea derived when a significant hotel in center of Athens asked us for a solution to protect its main curved entrance and vitrine - façade as during to almost every political demonstration organized in city resulted in property’s destruction and lead with enormous economic losses and damages for the owner. We experimented on our recent precious creation: “AL.ROLL”, the whaterproof shading system in a roll, where in vertical position and with new designed routes-drivers, we have created something durable in time and vandalism as now was focused on the customer’s protection. Durable double aluminum skin profiles and moreover, transparent parts with lexan protection material, can be available for more elegant results and also practical aspect. The new curved entrance and vitrine will be transformed into a real fortress.
